Baking soda, while always popular, is definitely seeing a return to glory with the advent of the green movement and Pinterest. I’ve seen countless pins dedicated to using baking soda for cleaning, for removing stains, and for beauty. I’ve already shown you one of my favorite uses for baking soda – in detox baths – but now I’ve got a new one: as a face scrub.
I have extremely strange skin. It’s both acne-prone and super dry as well as fairly sensitive. Which makes finding face products a bit of a challenge. Right now I’m using Proactiv (which I talk about soon), but I’ve also had very good luck with simple products including using baking soda as a face scrub.
Exfoliating is an important part of a skin care routine and there are lots of products out there. I’ve always been fond of apricot scrubs, but in the winter when my face is extra dry I find that those sorts of scrubs with their visible exfoliating bits can be too harsh. Which is why I was excited to try baking soda as an alternative.
I found baking soda to be an excellent way to exfoliate. It wasn’t too harsh, it wasn’t drying, it didn’t smell bad, and I thought it did a really good job making my face feel soft.
So what to do:
After washing your face and removing all your makeup, mix 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water together in a small bowl. Dampen your face with warm water and rub the baking soda paste in a circular motion around your face, avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water. Repeat 2-3 times a week!
I found that 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water is a good combination. You want it to be paste-like but not so thick it doesn’t rub easily. I’ve also tried it on my arms and legs with good results.
Do you use face scrubs? Is trying more natural beauty tips something that interests you?

I love the idea of using it on arms and legs! I was just thinking that my arms could use a good exfoliation!
Got to knock off all that scaly winter skin! 🙂
