Food Waste Friday

in Food Waste Friday

Yikes.  This was not a very good week.

For some reason, I keep ending up with a weird amount of leftovers; too much to be a second serving, but not enough for another meal.  I’ve had a few very random meals (last night was breadsticks and sesame chicken) to try and prevent food waste, but this week, it just wasn’t possible.

This week I wasted some spinach that was supposed to be used up in a meal I never made, some cocktail meatballs from last weekend, and some roasted potatoes and broccoli from about 10 days ago that I just never felt like eating.

I was able to save some slightly sour milk by putting it in some baked goods and I sent some leftovers home with my mom the other day, so I guess I can’t call the week a total failure.

What did you waste this week?

Ooh, that bag of spinach looks very familiar. I’ve lost a fair amount like that…just the last bit at the bottom of the bag!

I have some spinach in a vegetable saver bag that is giving it a little longer shelf live. We are tired of salads, so I was thinking about braising it. Let’s see if I can get to it before I have to take a picture of it next week.

When I have some long-in-the-tooth spinach, I toss it in a smoothie with lots of fruit. It turns it an odd colour but you cant taste it at all!

Sigh. I always forget about spinach smoothies. I never make smoothies but it is a terrific way to use up leftover spinach.
