Things I’m Complaining About Today

in Food Waste Friday, i love a good list, libraries, random ranting

Sometimes, on twitter (you follow me right?), I list random things that are irritating me today.  But today, I had more to say so I thought that I would list them for you here.
Because I know you are all so interested in what makes me tick.
1.      My crappy computer at home.  I have a lovely computer, really I do.  It’s a Dell, purchased in January of 2008 and I’ve only ever had one major hardware problem with it.  So what’s the problem?  It runs on Windows Vista.  And, in case you haven’t heard, Windows Vista is probably the worst operating system ever created.  It slows my computer down so much; even gmail has trouble opening on occasion.  I’ve done everything anyone has suggested to me to help speed it up or make it work better but no such luck.  I’m contemplating getting upgrading to Windows 7.  Thoughts?
2.      Doctors who borrow library books without checking them out.  I know disappearing books is a common problem in any library, but when your collection is only 600ish books, it becomes really noticeable.  Example: a few months ago I ordered this great, newly published book on obesity surgery.  I was very excited to show one of the attending surgeons the book (and its accompanying DVD) and when I went to get it, it was missing from the shelf.  So I checked my circulation system and the stack of cards the patrons sign to check out a book (welcome to a poor library where automated circulation is never going to happen), and no one had checked it out.  Yet the book was missing.  Insert major frustration here.  Any special librarians have any idea on how to prevent this?
3.      Vendors.  Vendors who call when I don’t have time/could care less about the product.  Vendors who don’t return phone calls.  Vendors who show up without notice to pitch something.  Really, just vendors in general.
4.      The fact the BCS trophy is making another round through Alabama Wal-Marts.  I know it’s probably the best place for people to see it and yes, I did stand in line at the Tuscaloosa Wal-Mart last year to see it (don’t judge me), but really?  Wal-Mart?  They couldn’t have found someplace else a little better to show it off?  Thanks for making our state look so awesome.  Again.
5.      Having food waste.  I know my food waste Friday photo for tomorrow is going to be epic and I haven’t even cleaned out my fridge.  It’s hard eliminating food waste without my dad there to eat everything just before it goes bad.
So that ends my complaining session for the day.  How is your day?  Do you have a list of things to complain about?

Ack! That library book thing would drive me nuts!

I also have a list of things to complain about today, including but not limited to: toddlers who want to be put down until you actually try to put them down and want to be held until you hold them (at the same time!!), dogs who decide they really need to go out and jump on you to signal this, and then decide it's too cold the moment the door opens…seems I'm annoyed with various small mammals in my household today.

Ooooh my FWFs have been horrible lately..and I've gotten so disgusted I've just upped and pitched them before I could get a chance to take a photo! Right now… I've got some hotdogs (TFH… not mine), old grease, and a few green onions.

Oh..and milk. That expired two weeks ago and is still sitting in the fridge! EW!

My complaints: Chicago transit (bus broke down on way to work causing me extreme lateness), people whining about holidays, paper cuts, COLD WEATHER, and the fact that I have zero time. Or energy. Or inclination. 🙂

BTW: My HP at home has Vista still. It IS slow… and I have tried Windows 7.. When faced with that choice, I switched to a Mac… havent had any problems..but I really didn't mind windows too much. I'd make the upgrade or get a new comp. 2008 is a few years now… so you could probably replace if you realllllly wanted to 🙂

Ugh, I do!!
The computer software we use at work isn't working so I can't do my work!
And a fellow dispatcher/employee (granted with more experience than me) criticizes every. single. decision. I. make. It's getting old really fast.

In regards to the computer, I agree, but I also think you should start saving for a computer (maybe a desktop, as they are cheaper) so you can pay cash for it. Now that you don't need it for school, I mean.
Our newest thing to save for and pay cash…a vacation in Hawaii!! (Granted it's a year away, but still) That's just my 2 cents 🙂

Change out your operating system, man. I've only ever used vista on work computers, which has been surprisingly painless, but I've been running Windows 7 on my laptop for about six months and have no complaints at all.

You could even switch to a linux-based system for free until you decide you want to pay for Windows 7. A new OS is significantly cheaper and less wasteful than a whole new computer.

oh, and my complaint is that I'm FREEZING even though I wore an extra warm dress to work today.
Also, I hate it when people complain about PCs and someone says something like " I got a mac and it's just great!" (sorry therese) I hate macs and mac users (smug lot). Macs are too expensive and unless you do some insane kind of coding, there is no need to waste your money. Plus having a mac makes a person act both superior and persecuted and that's just annoying.
