What Students Don’t Know – This is a long article and probably only relevant to librarians, but it really does bring a lot of good points, especially that, as a rule, librarians tend to overestimate students’ abilities to search.  To (probably mis) quote the article, “they know the language, but not the grammar”.  Meaning students know what it means to search, but can’t come up with what they really need.  Sounds like library instruction from kindergarten to college needs an overhaul.

It’s Important to Apologize When You Offend Someone – Just what you always needed, a customizable apology letter, perfect for the offended person in your life.

Review: Always the Bridesmaid by Nina Harrington – I just had to mention this because, I think, on some level, the author MUST have been thinking about me. (I mean I’ve been a bridesmaid a bunch of times and I love to bake… coincidence? I think not.)  So now the question is, where’s my CEO hero?

What did you find online this week?

I saw those cookies today on Annie’s Eats and Our Best Bites! (But I have to say, the Bacon Cheddar Dip looks good!)

I think I’m going to make the dip for the first weekend of college football (next week)! 🙂

Oh my gosh, those funfetti cupcakes look so delicious! Funfetti is kind of my guilty pleasure (whenever they’re at a party or gathering I always eat a ton!) but I don’t really make a habit of buying boxed cake mixes, so I always forget they exist. Now I have to make some!

Also, that article about students and search problems was really interesting. I was very lucky to have teachers and librarians (in high school and college) who gave detailed lessons on the best ways to search, best places to search, etc. Though it probably also helps that I was paying attention to them, because I know many of my classmates were clueless. I always found research super easy just because I knew where to look and how to phrase my search terms.

Most of the students (and, well, people) I’ve met definitely think of librarians as old ladies in glasses who don’t know how to use the internet, which is unfortunate.

Yes, I think the bigger problem is students that don’t pay attention. It’s difficult to make students care. You just have to hope that in every class there are two or three students who do pay attention and learn something.

But I also don’t think there is anything wrong with repetition and repeating one’s self year after year. It’s bound to sink in sometime, right?
