Thought-inducing articles…

How To Turn a Bad Day Around – We all have bad days. But you have a choice to keep it that way or make it better.

Vaccines: Peer Pressure, Propaganda, or Prudence – I’m not a mother, but I made a decision a while back, that unless overwhelming, evidence-based health information proves that vaccines are not safe for my child, I will vaccinate.  I work in a hospital and there is no telling what germs I bring home everyday.  After reading the stories that were linked in this article, it is easy to see how an non-vaccinated person can affect a child too young for vaccines.  The numbers of non-vaccinated children are rising, and so are the number of cases of measles and pertussis (whooping cough) both of which are preventable and treatable diseases, but can be life-threatening in the young, old, and immuno-compromised.

Single? Then You Know the Pity Face – I’m starting to get more and more of these, mostly from people I don’t know very well and moms of former high school classmates that I run into when I’m in my cruddy yoga pants and buying 2 pounds of butter and a 12 pack of diet coke on a Tuesday night.  I also get the “oh, well I’m sure Prince Charming is just around the corner!” a lot.  What are you supposed to say? “He got lost or hit by a bus”?  Mostly, I just smile an awkward smile and try to change the subject.

I thought this would make a really interesting (and fairly easy!) work out plan.  No idea what I would do for cardio…this is when I really wish I had an elliptical.

I am so with you on the vaccines! I think that our culture is becoming more and more anti-science, and it scares me. One of the things that always drives home the importance of vaccination for me is when I think of a student my husband had a couple years ago. She had leukemia and thus COULDN’T be vaccinated for a lot of things, meaning she was effectively at the mercy of whether or not others had been. I think vaccinating is a civic duty, frankly.

I’m with you on the vaccines. And there’s not a single thing on your list that doesn’t look tasty!

Ooh, a veggie pot pie! That looks yummy.
Also, I too agree on vaccines. The imaginary 8 children have had all their shots. The father of said imaginary 8 children works in the hospital. Germs! I’m all for working out the immune system, but not with preventable things.
And my mom has ~15% use of her shoulders from polio as a two-year-old. They thought she’d be in an iron lung. Her first memory is in the hospital.
There is no excuse for not vaccinating.

Jumping rope is an AMAZING tool for cardio. The best part is you don’t even need a jump rope! Just move your hands in a circle and pretend.

You and your bread recipes… again! And this time, you bring in sweet potatoes too. Oh my. I’m going to need to double that workout schedule you have there 😉
