Did you know that popcorn goes bad? Yeah, me neither. I always thought it was one of those products that the “best by” date was really just a suggestion. Maybe it is, but it’s certainly not okay 6 months past the “best by” date.
Which is how I ended up with this:
Yes, a full box of popcorn. I had been thinking for the past few months that I was really just a popcorn popping failure because every time I popped a bag (from another box with the same date), I burned it. Half the kernels wouldn’t have even opened, and it was burned. I tried everything; lower power, less time, putting it on a raised surface, and nothing worked. Until I checked the date, realized the popcorn expired SIX MONTHS ago. No wonder it hadn’t been popping correcting.
So out when 10 (including one very burnt bag) bags of popcorn. I also tossed a bit of pasta from a few weeks ago that got shoved to the back of the fridge. I did save two bananas by throwing them in the freezer. I see a loaf of banana bread in my near future.
What did you waste this week?

I finally figured that out about popcorn in the bag also. I thought it was our new microwave causing the problem until I got some new popcorn and it started popping well. I no longer buy the big boxes from Costco for that reason. However, my father grew our popcorn when I was a kid and we could keep it for a long time (a year or more) and it was still good.
So I’ve got a TON of bananas in my freezer once again. On the menu are banana waffles, and thinking of making a banana curry. I might be able to squeeze in a banana bread, but I want to do something non-traditional with them. Like a banana brownie. Or banana ice cream (I have an ice cream maker. REALLY I DO! and still haven’t used it). ;x Any other suggestions for me?
I don’t typically like banana-flavored things, so none of that sounds appealing at all. 🙂
The best I can do is banana bread and my banana chocolate chip muffins.
