It’s another no waste week at our house! After a not-so-great week last week and not really keeping up with food waste for the last few weeks, it’s a relief to say that we didn’t throw away any leftovers and no ingredients went bad.
Usually when I have a no-waste week there are still leftovers in the refrigerator waiting to be eaten for lunch, but I was really good this week about only cooking what I knew would get eaten. I’m really glad to see that my vigilance in monitoring our food waste is paying off.
This week I wanted to share a food waste tip: incorporate a leftovers night into your menu plan. It’s a very simple thing that I do every week that ensures minimal food waste. I usually plan ours for Wednesdays because the trash gets picked up on Thursdays, and if anything goes bad, that’s when it’s going to end up in the trash. Scheduling a leftovers night also means that I have one less night to plan and make a meal! Eliminating food waste is good for the wallet and the sanity.
